San Japan is a fan-run anime and gaming convention and the largest in South Texas. Its mission is to promote acceptance and appreciation of anime, gaming, and related fandoms. Every Labor Day weekend it takes over the Henry B. González Convention Center and the Grand Hyatt next door, with a big exhibit hall and artist alley, gaming, panels, concerts, and a huge cosplay presence along the River Walk.
When it happens
San Japan is always Labor Day weekend. San Japan 18 is set for September 3–5, 2027, per the official site. The 2026 edition ran September 4–6.
Tips
- The Grand Hyatt is attached to the convention center and books out early. Book River Walk hotels as soon as the block opens.
- Early September in San Antonio is still peak heat, so the River Walk’s shade is your friend between halls.
