Anime Matsuri
Houston's long-running anime and Japanese pop culture convention: four days of guests, cosplay contests, concerts, and Anime Academy workshops.
Anime Matsuri is one of the largest anime and Japanese pop culture conventions in the South. It celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2026 with four days at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Signature programming has included the Disney Princess Party, Import Reactor, cosplay contests, karaoke, wrestling, and Anime Academy workshops. Through the year, a season of mostly free community events builds up to the main con.
When it happens
The dates move around the summer. The 2024 show was in August, and 2026 ran July 23–26. The 2027 dates haven’t been announced.
Tips
- Follow the official socials for the free community events in the months before the con.
- Four-day badges are the best value if you’re local and plan to attend most days.
